Surveyor's Log Book (SLB)

Historically for students who have undertaken distance learning courses in surveying it has been difficult to gain practical experience in any sort of structured manner. To overcome this, our course provides a Surveyor's Log  Book (SLB) which breaks down all of the various aspects of a surveyors work into discrete and measurable components. As a surveyor under training completes each task he gathers evidence to support the experience and learning gained, in a structured manner, guided by the record book. Subsequently, once the book is complete the trainee surveyor can submit his log book to MTA for review. If adequately completed the student will be called for interview (peer review) where his understanding of the subject of surveying will be reviewed by a panel of three experienced and working surveyors. If successful the student will be issued with an MTA Certificate of Competence as Yacht and Small Craft Surveyor (Terms and conditions apply)

Practical Training Week- 3rd - 7th September 2012

To compliment the SLB MTA have put together a one week practical GRP survey practical training course at the Marine Skills Centre in Southampton. The week will provide students with hands on experience of GRP hand lay-up together with practical instruction in the identification and categorisation of GRP defects. The week will provide a student with an invaluable start towards completing their SLB. The Marine Skills centre in Southampton provides similar training for Lloyds Register of shipping surveyors and is one of the leading centres for practical marine training in the United Kingdom.
