Am I able to pay for my course in instalments?
You are required to pay 50% of your course fees on registration. The rest may be paid in 2 further instalments agreed between you and the MPI Group.
Is there any funding available?
MPI Group can offer a payment plan. A career development loan is offered through the department of Education & Skills for EU residents who live in the UK. If you do not fit into this category, try your government.
MOD applications with 8 years or more service may apply through the Enhanced Learning Credits Scheme (ELCAS). See your nearest resettlement office. ELC provider number 1829 or log onto www.enhancedlearningcredits.co.uk
Do I have to pay VAT if I am a foreign student?
Yes you still need to pay VAT on the couse fees, however you are able to reclaim the VAT from your local tax office
How long does the course last?
The course duration is12 months by distance learning. It runs from October to October with exams in October and April. A six month extension is available if required.
Do I have to enrol by October to start the course?
No, the enrolment period is open for 6 months from October to March and you will have 12 months to complete the 12 modules from the point of enrolment
Do I need to attend college?
No. There are tutorials prior to the exam date which you may attend and although a great advantage, they are not compulsory.
What if my circumstances change and I need to cancel?
Only under exceptional circumstances may you defer your study programme. The Course Director will make the final decision on deferment
What of my personal login doesn't work?

I am overseas......can I take my exam here?
Yes. As long as the venue is agreeable with the course provider and they are notified 8 weeks before the exam date.
Do my assignments need to be in by certain dates?
No. As long as all modules have been handed in 6 weeks prior to your exam. We recommend that you try and study one module per month to allow you to fit this into your busy schedule
How much time should I spend on study?
This will obviously depend on you and your circumstances. It is recommended that you complete one module each month and should take between 10-30 hours. If you have been away or are at sea, we can offer a six month extension period to complete your studies. Tutors can assist with time management issues.
What happens if I do not complete the assignments after 12-18 months?
If you require a further 6 months extension period to complete your assignments and exam then you are required to pay £250.00 extension fee. If you have allowed your coursework to lapse a further 6 months then we will require you to re-register for half your original course fees.
Will the Diploma help me become a Ship Superintendent?
The Diploma will provide the basic under pinning knowledge required by someone intending to become a Ship Superintendent. The Diploma has been based on the Det Norske Veritas (DNV) competency standard. For those who are already experienced it is a great way to update your knowledge.
What is the academic level of my Diploma?
The Diploma can be used to support a submission for Accredited Prior Learning (APL) when applying to a relevant University of Portsmouth degree.
Will I become a qualified Ship Superintendent upon completion?
The course does not qualify the student a ship superintendent. Successful completion only proves that the student has completed a CPD course covering some of the underpinning knowledge required. Completing this course will give you crucial knowledge and understanding. For those seeking careers it will raise your profile on the job market.
