Diploma in Coatings for Corrosion Control 


What the course offers

Endorsed by Lloyds, ICorr, SSPC and the BCF, Corrodere have created a Diploma for students who want to further their education in coating and corrosion control beyond the current coating training programmes available.  Observing a requirement within the industry for professionals who want to learn more about coatings than is currently available, Corrodere have managed to meet this industry expectation by providing through existing training courses an Internationally recognised Diploma. The Diploma can be used to support a submission for Accredited Prior Learning (APL) when applying to a relevant University of Portsmouth degree.

Corrosion is widespread and can be found in virtually every industry throughout the globe. Corrosion can have both commercial and environmental implications and there are numerous methods of corrosion control such as material selection, cathodic protection, environmental control etc. By far the most widely used method of corrosion control is with the use of protective coatings. Why you should study the Diploma in Coatings for Corrosion Control

The Corrodere Diploma is the only Diploma specifically written for corrosion control with the use of protective coatings. Although coatings inspection techniques are discussed this course requires for more depth of knowledge and understanding to corrosion and corrosion control with the use of protective coatings. The course is not only suited to senior coatings inspectors but to senior management, graduates and engineers who want a better understanding of corrosion and Corrosion Control. The Diploma is not a replacement for Coating Inspector Qualifications but a further progression in your level of qualification.

The course

All students will have access to the online Corrodere delivery training material for the study period of twelve months. There will be six assignments set, each covering a different specialist subject within the Corrosion Control Field. Guidelines for the assignments are provided within the question and you will be asked to choose 6 of the 12 specialist subjects (listed below). It is a requirement to research each subject thoroughly and produce a 2,500–3,000 word assignment, answering a set essay specialist question for each subject. Assignments are to be submitted to the subject tutor via email. It would be expected that the assignment display a greater depth of knowledge than that obtained from the online training. Additional Reference Material - Each student will be provided with 'Corrosion Prevention by Protective Coatings by C.G Munger, access to archive material from magazines JPCL and PCE as well as a free subscription to PCE for 12 months and a free copy of Fitz's Atlas.   

The examination

On the completion and passing of the six specilaist assignments it is required that you sit and pass a 3 hour closed book exam consisting beofre attaining the Diploma in Coatings for Corrosion Control. the exam will consist of multi choice and essay style questions. The examination centres are in Surrey and Newcastle and eaxams dates are set in October/November and April/May 2013. Depending on available support facilities exams may be sat at a more convenient location.

The below are guidelines as all applicants will be reviewed by the Course Programme Manager who makes the final decision on acceptance.

NACE Level 2

FROSIO 3

Corrodere IMO/PSPC

HNC in relevant subject

Candidates with no formal qualifications but who can demonstrate extensive relevant industrial experience are welcome to apply.
